Gender Just Climate Action requires truth
12/11/2025
The Women and Gender Constituency stands in full solidarity with the Indigenous Munduruku women and leaders who are peacefully protesting outside the COP30 Blue Zone in Belém today. They are calling for an urgent meeting with President Lula, for the repeal of Decree 12.600/2025, for the cancellation of the Ferrogrão railway, and for the protection of their territories from destructive infrastructure projects.
Their protest is peaceful, dignified and grounded in care for their people, their territories and their elders. They are standing in truth. They are reminding this process of what it prefers not to confront.
If anyone feels inconvenienced by being redirected at an entrance, we urge them to reflect on the daily realities Indigenous Peoples face. A short wait outside a plenary hall is nothing compared to generations of land theft, violence, criminalization, persecution, dispossession, and political disregard. Indigenous women live with the consequences of governments and corporations invading, polluting and destroying their territories every day and they are the first to be affected by these violations in their own bodies. Today, they demand we listen.
We honor their leadership and we echo their demands. The rights of Indigenous Peoples are not optional. They are foundational to climate justice. The Munduruku leaders outside are doing what this process has failed to do. They are telling the truth about the stakes. The real disruption is the ongoing violation of their rights, not their peaceful presence at the gate.
We wear red today to stand with Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous women. We follow their leadership. And we call on all Parties to do the same.
Today and every day, we follow the leadership of Indigenous women who defend life with courage and dignity. Their struggle reminds this process that there is no climate justice without Indigenous Peoples rights.
Nem um passo atrás. Pela vida das mulheres. Pela vida da Terra. Amazônia viva, povos livres.
