Feminists Gather in Brasília Ahead of COP30

This October, the Women and Gender Constituency brought together 30 Latin American and Caribbean feminists in Brasília for a strategic two-day convening ahead of COP30.

Alongside WEDO, Barranquilla+20, Instituto Geledés, WECF, and Instituto Alziras, the gathering dismantled the weaponization of «technical expertise» that has systematically excluded Global South feminists from climate negotiations, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to engage effectively in the UNFCCC process.

Over two days, participants deconstructed barriers to participation, mapped power dynamics within UNFCCC structures, practiced delivering interventions and bilaterals with parties, and developed collective strategies to advance feminist demands both inside and outside the COP30 venue.

More than a training, the convening created a political space rooted in mutual care and rich dialogue, strengthening regional solidarity and building the confidence needed to challenge and reshape climate negotiations with collective feminist power.

"Despite the serious topics, there was a light atmosphere of cooperation and respect in the room, with everyone free to get up, leave, or take their time if they felt the need."

"The program and topics covered, as well as the guests and debates, were excellent. Both for those who have participated in other COPs and, especially, for those who are unfamiliar with the dynamics of the UNFCCC and the COP event, its negotiations, and its spaces."
