About

Filha do Sol recognizes and supports women’s leadership in climate action. This women-led CSO created the Women’s Climate School, offe- ring two vocational programs with technical skills focused on community- led climate projects with seed funding. The school also selects local leaders from frontline communities to be trained in climate policy and leadership, join a larger climate coalition, and become knowledge multipliers. The Climate & Territory program supports women in mangrove restoration in the Delta do Paranaíba. The Climate & Entrepreneurship program boosts diverse initiatives from waste management to circular economy and agroforestry in the Barra Grande region.

Climate impact

  • Planting 100 hectares of mangroves will absorb 8,500 tons of CO2 emissions.
  • 20 young people involved in turtle conservation in the Delta do Parnaíba saving endangered ocean species.
  • Fostering community cohesion and commitment via waste management, organic farming projects, or music events.

Gender impact

  • Fostering community cohesion and commitment via waste management, organic farming projects, or music events.
  • Women-led initiatives contribute to transforming women’s status in the community as they uplift their economic and social autonomy.
  • The curriculum of the school is flexible and delivered partially online so as not to place extra burden on women.

Scalability/replicability

  • The Climate School is designed to be scaled horizontally across the Tropics and replicated in other cities and countries such as Cartagena, Colombia.
  • Filha do Sol follows an international networking strategy to connect frontline women leaders with global academic, political and financial partners.
