Nov 11 Action Alert: Gender Justice Day
05/11/2025
Last Monday and Tuesday, the UNFCCC hosted the Fourth dialogue under the Just Transition Work Program (JTWP), focused on exploring specific aspects of energy transitions.
The Women and Gender Constituency’s Just Transition working group was well represented with two in-person participants and four virtual participants actively engaging in the dialogue – advancing our vision of a just energy transition that is feminist, intersectional and community-centered, and based on principles of participation and consent.
Our priorities – shared through plenary and in bilaterals with Parties – were highlighting the need for a human rights analysis of the role of “transition minerals,” challenging narratives of securitization and militarization, and calling for the participation of mining-affected communities in decisions around how their own mineral resources are used. We called for gender-transformative, decentralized, and democratized energy solutions, and highlighted case studies of this work already happening, including within the Gender Just Climate Solutions. And we called for whole-systems change approaches to the question of energy, centering rights-based considerations across energy production, implementation, distribution, access, and use.
