Press Release: Countries at COP30 Stand Up for Gender Equality
92 Countries Sign “Global Statement on Gender Equality and Climate Action at COP30“
Press Release
10 November 2025 – On the opening day of COP30, 92 countries including the Alliance of Independent Latin American and Caribbean States (AILAC), Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Australia, Canada, Chad, the European Union, Environmental Integrity Group (EIG), Guinea, Iceland, Japan, Moldova, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of San Marino, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay released a “Global Statement on Gender Equality and Climate Action Ahead of COP30.”
In the statement, governments reaffirmed their “shared and unwavering commitment to achieving gender equality and the protection, fulfilment, and enjoyment of human rights for all as key elements of meaningful, effective, and inclusive climate action.”
The Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) welcomes this broad show of political will and solidarity across regions and negotiating blocs. Setting out clear commitments and expectations for the new Gender Action Plan (GAP) on Day 1 of COP30 sends a strong signal that gender equality is not peripheral to climate action but foundational to its success.
“The willingness of so many countries to unite behind gender equality at the start of COP30 is both powerful and necessary,” said Mwanahamisi Singano, co-focal point of the WCG. “Now we urge Parties to bring that same energy, unity, and ambition into the negotiation rooms.”
While many of the priorities reflected in the Global Statement align with those of the WGC, the Constituency calls on governments to strive for the highest level of ambition in the renewed Gender Action Plan, moving beyond rhetorical commitments to deliver a truly transformative framework, along with clear pathways for the provision of means of implementation, for gender-responsive climate action.
“We call on Parties to enter the negotiations with courage, shared leadership, and a resolute commitment to systemic change,” the WGC added. “This is a pivotal moment to translate promises into progress.”
