FEMINISTS BLOC HIGHLIGHTED GENDER JUSTICE AT NOVEMBER 6 DAY OF ACTION
Glasgow, Scotland – At 13:00 GMT on November 6, the Women & Gender Constituency and allies marched in a feminist bloc at the Global Day of Action March for Climate Justice. Women climate and environmental rights defenders marched to demand feminist climate justice at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated global inequalities and is driving millions in the Global South towards poverty and instability. We marched to highlight that the current commitments by rich countries for climate action and finance are grossly inadequate, severely lacking and disconnected from grassroot realities. The feminist bloc chanted, sang and marched to demand fulfillment of promises made at Paris and Copenhagen, advance the Gender Action Plan and ensure human rights and ecosystems in Article 6. Women climate rights defenders, especially grassroots women, Indigenous women, Afrodescendent leaders, disabled activists and so many more, are on the forefront of climate action. The Constituency aims to highlight the missing voices at COP26, marching for the ones alive who are not here, and for the ones who have been murdered for protecting our planet. We raised our voices against the exclusionary and discriminatory COP26. We reminded those at the march and those watching us from afar that we feminists stand strong, united in solidarity to fight this together.

ABOUT
The Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) is one of the nine stakeholder groups of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Established in 2009, the WGC now consists of 29 women’s and environmental civil society organizations, who are working to ensure that women’s voices and their rights are embedded in all processes and results of the UNFCCC framework, for a sustainable and just future, so that gender equality and women’s human rights are central to the ongoing discussions. As the WGC represents the voices of hundreds and thousands of people across the globe, members of the Constituency are present at each UNFCCC meeting and intersessional alongside the UNFCCC Secretariat, governments, civil society observers and other stakeholders to ensure that women’s rights and gender justice are core elements of the UNFCCC. In this action the constituency is joined by other stakeholders committed to advancing women’s human rights, peace and climate justice. https://womengenderclimate.org
