Resources for GJCS

The Women and Gender Constituency hosts multiple webinars every year that can be particularly useful for people designing and implementing Gender Just Climate Solutions around the world.

In 2020, the Women and Gender Constituency organized three main virtual events: a training session on Women’s Entrepreneurship in August, a webinar on “Advocacy for Gender Just Climate Solutions” in July and a three-part webinar series on “Communications for Gender Just Climate Action” in October. Please find below the recordings and some additional information.

Webinar Series: “Communications for Gender Just Climate Action”

Webinar 1: Digital Advocacy, introduced the series. Neha Gupta of the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) introduced a suite of digital tools and provide tips and approaches for messaging and using these tools with examples from actual campaigns, and Hanna Gunnarsson of Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) provided insights on creating digital content using free and basic tools, with a focus on CANVA.

Webinar 2: Media Advocacy, led by Neha Gupta (APWLD) with support from Hanna Gunnarsson (WECF) and Mara Dolan (WEDO), discussed creating a media advocacy plan, building media relations, monitoring your media, and dealing with bad press, concluding by exploring the media strategy from COP25 as an example.

Webinar 3: Storytelling, led by Mara Dolan (WEDO) with support from Neha Gupta (APWLD) and Hanna Gunnarsson (WECF), explored how we can tell stories to build support for gender and climate justice movements, outlining the components of an impactful value-driven story and how to use stories in your communications work moving forward.

Webinar: “Advocacy for Gender Just Climate Action”

Climate ambition does not only refer to mitigation commitments but to transforming climate action and putting a human-centered approach at its heart. This webinar showcased three examples of gender-just climate action and advocacy from the Gender Just Climate Solutions initiative, featuring Madina Amin Hussein (Global Nature Conservation), Sanjay Banka (Banka BioLoo) and Ndivile Mokoena (GenderCC-Women for Climate Justice Southern Africa and WGC Co-Focal Point).

In addition to presenting these Gender Just Climate Solutions, the WGC’s Gina Cortés Valderrama (Women Engage for a Common Future), Tara Daniel (Women’s Environment and Development Organization), and Patricia Bohland (LIFE e.V. and WGC Coordinator) shared resources to support advocacy for gender just climate action.

In August 2020, the Women and Gender Constituency organized a two-days virtual training sessions on Women’s Entrepreneurship focused on the needs of Gender Just Climate Solutions. While presenting the Gender Just Climate Solutions, the WGC’s Gina Cortés Valderrama and Anne Barre (Women Engage for a Common Future) shared resources to support women’s entrepreneurship worldwide and gender just climate action.
