COP28 Closing Session Intervention


During the Opening Session of the joint plenary at COP28 on June 6, WGC Advocate and member of the MENA Feminist Taskforce, Ayshka Najib shared our concerns that the outcomes here at COP, while mentioning a transition away from fossil fuels, are riddled with loopholes and bring us backwards by opening the door widely to dangerous distractions and false solutions. They did not not reflect genuine calls for action informed on disaggregated data but remains framed under intentions, wishes, and invitations to do so.

She further asserted our collective commitment to dismantling oppression and inequalities perpetuated by militarized, fossil fuel-driven colonial powers – bearing witness to the genocide in Palestine, the atrocities in Sudan and Congo and in many regions around the world.
