During the Closing Session for SB58 on June 18, WGC Advocate and member of the MENA Feminist Taskforce, Muna Alhammadi emphasised that human rights, Indigenous rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality cannot be realized without real, scaled-up funding for mitigation, adaptation, and paying up for loss and damage. She further called for Parties with climate finance obligations must ensure adequate, predictable, new and additional grant-based climate finance to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement; as a matter of justice and equity, rather than erroneously understood as charity.
