During the Opening Session of the joint plenary at SB58 on June 6, WGC Advocate and member of the MENA Feminist Taskforce, Ayskha Najib, made a strong statement that as we prepare to escalate ambition through the GST, our demand to negotiators is a clear call to centre equity, human rights and social justice, assessing the gender-differentiated impacts of climate change by integrating intersecting perspectives throughout data collection, analysis, and reporting. She further reminded Parties that these processes must ultimately fulfill their purpose and warned against their compromise: lack of climate finance undermined by fossil fuel subsidies
and increased military spending, both exacerbating womenʼs, girlsʼ and LBGTQ+ peopleʼs exposure to gender-based and structural violence. Read the full statement here!
