The Women and Gender Constituency hosts webinars that may be useful for people designing and implementing Gender Just Climate Solutions around the world. Webinar Series: Funding Gender-Just Climate Action (April 2021)
Webinar 1: Exploring the funding landscape (Explorer le paysage du financement/Explorando el panorama de financiación), introduced the series on 1 April. Our speakers introducing upcoming funding opportunities were Paige Andrew & Veronica Veloso of FRIDA Young Feminist Fund, Belguun “Bella” Bat-Erdene of the Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights and Karina Larsen of CTCN.

Webinar 2: Improving capacities to access funding (Améliorer les capacités d’accès aux financements/Mejorando las capacidades para acceder a la financiación), that took place April 15, offered the opportunity to exchange and learn from one another as well as to hear recommendations to successfully access funding. In addition, our speakers Shrada Shreejaya of MamaCash and Ursula Miniszewski of Global Greengrants provided insights from the grantmaker’s perspective.

Webinar 3: Understanding the multilateral climate funds (Comprendre les fonds multilatéraux pour le climat/Entendiendo los fondos multilaterales para el clima) on April 29, introduced the framework of the international climate finance instruments and existing accessibility paths. The WGC’s perspectives and framing of the climate funds were presented by Tara Daniel, Hwei Mian Lin and Liane Schalatek. The introduction was followed by explorations of the Adaptation Fund, by Young Lee, and the GEF Small Grants Programme by Doley Tshering and Angelica Shamerina. The lively Q&A session underlined the need for transparent information and better accessibility.

Webinar Series: “Communications for Gender Just Climate Action”
Webinar 1: Digital Advocacy, introduced the series. Neha Gupta of the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) introduced a suite of digital tools and provide tips and approaches for messaging and using these tools with examples from actual campaigns, and Hanna Gunnarsson of Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) provided insights on creating digital content using free and basic tools, with a focus on CANVA.

Webinar 2: Media Advocacy, led by Neha Gupta (APWLD) with support from Hanna Gunnarsson (WECF) and Mara Dolan (WEDO), discussed creating a media advocacy plan, building media relations, monitoring your media, and dealing with bad press, concluding by exploring the media strategy from COP25 as an example.

Webinar: “Advocacy for Gender Just Climate Action”
Climate ambition does not only refer to mitigation commitments but to transforming climate action and putting a human-centered approach at its heart. This webinar showcased three examples of gender-just climate action and advocacy from the Gender Just Climate Solutions initiative, featuring Madina Amin Hussein (Global Nature Conservation), Sanjay Banka (Banka BioLoo) and Ndivile Mokoena (GenderCC-Women for Climate Justice Southern Africa and WGC Co-Focal Point).
In addition to presenting these Gender Just Climate Solutions, the WGC’s Gina Cortés Valderrama (Women Engage for a Common Future), Tara Daniel (Women’s Environment and Development Organization), and Patricia Bohland (LIFE e.V. and WGC Coordinator) shared resources to support advocacy for gender just climate action.

In August 2020, the Women and Gender Constituency organized a two-day virtual training session on Women’s Entrepreneurship focused on the needs of Gender Just Climate Solutions. The WGC’s Gina Cortés Valderrama and Anne Barre (Women Engage for a Common Future) shared various resources to support women’s entrepreneurship and demonstrate how entrepreneurial tools and frameworks can support gender just climate action.
